PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team recorded a 2-1 win over cross-town opponent Robert Morris Tuesday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
With the win, Pitt moves to 3-4-0 overall on the year, while the Colonials are still winless with a 0-7-1 record.
Freshman Colin Brezniak found the back of the net for the second time this season, giving Pitt the initial lead of the match in the eighth minute. Junior Joshua Gaspari put in the game-winner in the 56th minute, his first goal as a Panther.
"We're excited to get a win," head coach Jay Vidovich said. "However, as a group we left too much out on the table and made the game more difficult than it needed to be."
Pitt started the non-conference match-up off strong, scoring in the eighth minute off the foot of Brezniak. Fighting through traffic in the box, freshman Edward Kizza crossed the ball from the left side setting Brezniak up for the finish.
The Panthers out-shot the Colonials in the opening frame 6-2 and drew three corner kicks.
Robert Morris netted the equalizer in the 55th minute as Roald Aas Ravlum set a ball to the top of the box from the right flank that found the head of Rafael Bruzual.
Pitt responded just nearly a minute later as senior Raj Kahlon sent Gaspari a pass from the right side to the middle. Gaspari needed just one touch to send the ball past RMU's Winter Fondi in goal.
The Panthers again out-shot Robert Morris in the second half, this time 10-3 and drew five corners.
Pitt resumes action Friday, Sept. 22 when the team travels to No. 8 Clemson. The ACC match-up is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
