Pitt Tennis Releases Fall Schedule

PITTSBURGH - In preparation for the 2017 spring season, the Pitt women's tennis head coach Alex Santos announced the 2016 fall slate Friday afternoon.
"We are really happy with our fall schedule," Santos said. "We feel that all of the tournaments that we will be playing in will be a tremendous opportunity for us to improve as a program. We will be seeing top notch competition, being tested in every occasion we step on the court and trying to be at our very best every time."
The Panthers will make stops at the University Miami, Northwestern, the ITA Women's All-American Championship in California, the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by Old Dominion and will finish the season out at the Harvard Invitational.
Pitt returns a veteran group in redshirt senior Amber Washington, seniors Audrey Ann Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan and junior Callie Frey, as well as three sophomores, Clara Lucas, Natsumi Okamoto and Gabriela Rezende.
The Panthers begins fall competition by traveling to Miami, Fla., for the Hurricane Invite Sept. 23-25. The Invite will feature players from Miami, Auburn and FIU.
Pitt then heads to Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., for the Wildcat Invite Sept. 30-Oct. 2. In her last visit to the Wildcat Invite, Frey earned a second-place finish in singles play against a LSU opponent.
Later that week, select Panthers will compete in the prestigious Riviera/ITA's Women's All American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Oct. 6-11, where they will face some of the best tennis players in the country.
Pitt returns to the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships Oct. 14-18 at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. In their last visit, Ogungbesan and Washington fell in the semifinals to ACC-foe Virginia.
The fall season will conclude in Cambridge, Mass., for the Harvard Invitational Nov. 4-6. Pitt will be joined by Boston University, Syracuse and host Harvard.
