CARY, N.C. - The Pitt tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to 47^th-ranked Notre Dame in the opening round of the 2016 ACC Championships Wednesday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Park.

"We didn't get the outcome we were looking for, but Notre Dame was more complete playing with a different level of confidence," head coach Alex Santos said. "This was a great season for Pitt tennis and we developed a very good base to keep growing. We have a bright future ahead of us."

The 11^th-seeded Irish started the dual with back-to-back doubles wins, securing the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. The Pitt tandem freshmen Gabriela Rezende and Natsumi Okamoto first fell to Notre Dame's Brooke Broda and Allison Miller on court three, 6-1. Redshirt junior Amber Washington and sophomore Callie Frey then dropped a 6-1 decision to Mary Closs and Julie Vrabel at No. 2.

In singles action, junior Lolade Ogungbesan was the first Panther to fall. Ogungbesan was defeated in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, by 48^th-ranked Quinn Gleason playing No. 1 singles.

The Irish took a 3-0 lead after Rezende fell short in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, on court five. Soon after, the match was decided as Frey went down 6-2, 6-2 on court three to No. 107 Allison Miller.

The Panthers finish the season 7-14 overall and 1-14 against ACC opponents.
