Pitt Tennis Concludes Regular Season at Virginia, Florida State

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt tennis team will conclude the regular season this weekend with a pair of road matches at No. 13 Virginia and No. 57 Florida State. The Panthers (7-11, 1-11 ACC) will take on the Cavaliers (12-9, 7-5 ACC) Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m. followed by the Seminoles (10-12, 2-10 ACC) on Sunday, April 17 at noon.
SERIES HISTORY
Pitt and Virginia previously met in 2014 and 2015 with the Cavaliers claiming both matches. Florida State leads all meetings 3-0. All three were played within the last two years.
LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers dropped a pair of home matches to ACC foes Syracuse and Clemson. Pitt fell 6-1 to the Orange on Friday before suffering a 5-2 loss to the Tigers on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
Virginia moved up to No. 13 in this week's rankings after defeating No. 30 Virginia Tech last Sunday. The Cavaliers downed the in-state rival 6-1.
Four Virginia singles players earned national recognition this week in the ITA rankings, coming in as high as No. 2 in senior Danielle Collins. She paces the squad at No. 1 singles, boasting an impressive 13-2 record at that position. The senior is also 18-4 against nationally ranked opponents this season. Collins is also a prominent doubles player for the Cavaliers alongside freshman Meghan Kelley. The tandem ranks 22nd in the country and are 20-7 overall this season.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
Prior to the Panthers making their way to Tallahassee, Fla., the Seminoles will host Troy and Louisville for a doubleheader on Friday, April 15. In its last time out, Florida State fell to No. 20 Wake Forest 4-3.
Redshirt senior Daneika Borthwick ranks No. 31 in singles this week, owning an 11-5 record when playing No. 1 singles.
WASHINGTON WORKING
Amber Washington is having a standout redshirt junior campaign with a team-high 24 singles wins and just eight losses, good for a .750 winning percentage. Washington's 24 wins tie her for sixth in Pitt single-season singles wins. The St. Paul, Minn., native boasts a 10-2 mark against ACC opponents and is 15-2 overall in duals. Washington shines mainly at No. 6 singles, claiming a perfect 10-0 record and also owns a 5-2 record at No. 5.
