CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Pitt tennis team officially ended its fall season Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Harvard Invitational. The Panthers used their winning momentum from Saturday to take four matches from ACC-for Syracuse this afternoon.
"Our goal coming into this tournament was to compete hard and to play our tennis independently of the score," said head coach Alex Santos. "That's exactly what we did and I am very proud of the girls for that. Today we finish on a high note. We took both doubles matches and without playing our best. It is important to find ways to succeed through adversity and to gain confidence from that. In singles, we put ourselves in a position to succeed on all 4 courts and both Amber [Washington] and Gabriela [Rezende] came up with a lot of toughness in the key points. We did the little things very well for three consecutive days which is very hard and I believe we leave Harvard as a better, more experienced and mature team."
Pitt started off the day with two doubles wins, first by junior Callie Frey alongside redshirt senior Amber Washington. The duo recorded a 6-4 win over Tritou/Mitchell of Syracuse.
The sophomore tandem of Gabriela Rezende and Clara Lucas outlasted Mush/Hegab, 7-6(7).
Moving to singles, the Panthers took two of four from the Orange. Washington battled her way through a three set match, coming out victorious, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Rezende also put up a singles win in three set, dropping the first 0-6 and bouncing back to take the second and third 6-1, 6-2.
