NORFOLK, Va. - The Pitt tennis team concluded action at the 2016 ITA Atlantic Regional Championships Sunday evening on the campus of Old Dominion University.
Senior Lolade Ogungbesan and junior Callie Frey both finished the weekend winning their singles matches.
"We finished our participation at regionals with a lot of positives to take confidence from and also some lessons for us to grow from," head coach Alex Santos said. "I am very pleased with our tennis overall and our competitiveness. We are winning important matches and doing the right things on a consistent basis. The biggest focus in preparation for Harvard is to understand that matches will be won or lost in the important points and that nothing less than extreme resiliency will get the job done."
Frey earned a hard-fought battle to Olivia Thaler of William and Mary, 7-6(5), 6-4, while Ogungbesan defeated Claire Minnoe of Saint Joseph's 2-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Senior Audrey Blakely fell to Marshall's Stephanie Smith, 6-2, 6-4, in the main draw. Redshirt senior Amber Washington also dropped her singles match. Washington dropped a 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 decision to Timea Guibe of James Madison.
The Panthers will compete in their final fall invitational of the year Friday, Nov. 4-Nov. 6 in Cambridge, Mass., at the Harvard Invitational.
