CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Pitt tennis team concluded its weekend at the Miami Fall Invite hosted by the University of Miami on Sunday, Sept. 20.
“Today we leave Miami as a much better team,” head coach Alex Santos said. “Unfortunately we didn’t get the results we were looking for.”
Three Panthers competed today, including Audrey Ann Blakely in the Orange Singles Draw third place consolation round, and Lolade Ogungbesan and Amber Washington in the Orange Doubles Draw third place consolation.
Blakely fell to Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer of Georgia Tech, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3).
“Audrey Ann played a very complete match with moments of brilliant tennis,” said Santos.
Ogungbesan/Washington fell to Gabriella De Santis and Miho Kowase of Ohio State, 6-2.
“In doubles, we weren’t able to execute what we had planned,” Santos said. “We should feel a little disappointed about that, but more importantly, eager to improve. We are now a tougher and more consistent team, but it will take all eight girls and another gear of intensity for us to achieve our goals.”
Next on tap for the Panthers is the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill.
