Coming to Pitt with success in the past, how do you think this will help you in the ACC?
I lived in Japan for 15 years and then I moved to Spain by myself. I didn't speak English or Spanish so it was hard to study and play tennis at the same time, but it helped me achieve my goal to come to the United States and play tennis.
Why did you choose to attend Pitt?
I wanted to earn a scholarship for playing tennis. When Coach Alex recruited me I was very happy because Pitt has good academics and I also like the location. My major is undecided but I would like to go into business.

What was the most memorable moment from this past fall season?
For me each match was memorable and it was also my first time playing on a team. Overall, the best moment was beating Harvard at Yale.

What is your favorite thing to do in Tokyo?
I like to hang out with my friends in the Center and go out to eat.

Have there been any challenges you have faced being far from home?
Not really. I'm never home sick. I'm an only child which might make it easier, but I talk to my parents through Skype a lot. The team makes it easier too because we are very close and all have a good relationship.
What are the pros and cons of being an international student-athlete?
It's a good thing because of the native speakers. Having five international students on the team also helps. It's cool to meet people and learn about their culture.

What has become one of your favorite things to do in Pittsburgh?
Gabi [Rezende] and I always go to the movies together.

Where is your favorite place to study at on campus?
I like the library; I've been there several times. I also like to study at home.
Do you enjoy playing singles or doubles better?
Singles. I'm better at singles, I need to practice more on doubles.
Other than tennis what is your favorite sport?
I love watching baseball because it's very big in Japan. I ran marathons when I was younger and also participated in gymnastics.
Who is your favorite tennis player and why?
Rodger Federer because he's a legend, he's the best.
If you could be on a doubles team with any tennis player in the world who would it be, why?
One of the Bryan brothers because they know how to play doubles and they're smart.
