LYNCHBURG, Va. - The doubles team of junior Lolade Ogungbesan and senior Amber Washington fell in the semifinal round of the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship main draw on Sunday afternoon.
"I am really proud of Lolade and Amber's performance today," head coach Alex Santos said. "We played a Virginia team formed by the most dominant player in collegiate tennis at the moment, and lost in a close match. Lolade and Amber played impressive tennis and for the vast majority of the match, didn't allow the score to affect their energy and the way they wanted to execute their patterns. A couple of points and a little more experience was the key. It was an incredible tournament from Lolade and Amber and I loved the mentality they had to play every point."
After a successful run in the 2015 ITA Atlantic Regional Championships and becoming the first Pitt doubles team to ever reach the semifinal round of an ITA tournament, the duo fell to ACC-foes Danielle Collins and Meghan Kelley of Virginia, 6-4, 6-4.
Prior to reaching the semifinals, Ogungbesan/Washington battled their way past opponents from Virginia Tech, VCU and Maryland. Their efforts this weekend give them an overall fall record of 6-6.
The Panthers will finish their fall season Nov. 6-8, at the Harvard Invitational.
