Pitt Tennis Earns 5-2 Win Over Duquesne

The Pitt tennis team (4-5) earned a 5-2 win on Saturday afternoon against crosstown rival Duquesne (5-6) at Alpha Tennis and Fitness.
The Panthers picked up the doubles point with two wins in the tiebreak. On court one for doubles, Audrey Ann Blakely and Taylor Washington were up 7-3 at one point, but the Dukes’ Sarah Shashura and Zuzanna Stelmaszak fought back to tie it up at 7-7. Pitt took the 8-7 lead and won the tiebreak 7-2. Pitt secured the doubles point on court three when Pitt seniors Kimmy Borza and Jocelyn Lu battled from a 7-4 deficit to take the 8-7 lead and went on to win the tiebreak 7-3.
In No. 1 singles, 86th-ranked Audrey Ann Blakely dropped her first set 6-2 to Judy Li of Duquesne, but clawed back, taking the 7-5 win in set two and won the tiebreak 6-1.
Senior Taylor Washington also had to fight for her win on court two, taking the first set against Alexa Miller, 6-4. Miller responded with a 6-4 win in the second set and Washington secured the match victory for Pitt with a 6-2 tiebreak.
Borza and freshman Lolade Ogungbesan dominated in their matches as Borza won 6-0, 6-0 over Spencer Caravaggio on court 5 and Ogungbesan won 6-1, 6-1 on No. 3 against Zuzanna Stelmaszak.
The Panthers return to conference action next weekend when they travel to No. 45 Boston College on March 21 and No. 5 Virginia on March 23.
