NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Competing in its third tournament of the fall season, the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team will head to the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Yale University this weekend, October 10-12.
Pitt will play Yale, Brown and Dartmouth this weekend, while Rutgers and William & Mary will also be in New Haven.
"We are eager to compete at the Bulldog Invite," head coach Alex Santos said. "We will be facing three great teams in Yale, Brown, and Dartmouth but as of right now our focus is the match against Yale on Friday. Yale will bring us a lot of adversity in both singles and doubles but we’re heading to New Haven knowing that we had a great week of practice and top notch competition in the Miami and Northwestern Invites. We will be using different doubles combinations in our line-up that we feel will have a positive impact in our level of play. Our priority is to play relentless, aggressive and smart tennis throughout the entire length of the match. Part of confidence comes from winning tennis matches and we have to make the most out of every opportunity overcoming complicated moments."
Two weeks ago at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern, the duo of Molly Wickman and Audrey Ann Blackely lead the Panthers with a strong showing against as they reached the finals of the Flight A doubles bracket. The tandem ultimately played to an overall record of 3-1 together and claimed second place overall.
Amanda Wickman became the 15th player in program history to notch her 100th career victory at the Wildcat Invitational. Wickman, Callie Frey, Lolade Ogungbesan and Molly Wickman all advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament in singles. Molly Wickman is eight wins shy of joining her sister as the 16th member of the 100 wins club.
After the Bulldog Invitational, selected Panthers will participate in the ITA Regional hosted by Virginia Tech.
