Baseball Falls to Ohio, 9-4

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt baseball team fell to Ohio, 9-4, Tuesday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field.
The Panthers drop to 13-9 while the Bobcats improve to 13-11 on the season.
Senior John Schultz drove in two runs and classmate Kevan Smith added an RBI sacrifice fly for the Panthers.
The Bobcats were led by third baseman Dan Ward, who hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the game.
Pitt claimed an early 1-0 lead after the first two runners reached base in the third inning.
Freshman Casey Roche led off the inning with a double and freshman Derik Wilson reached on a fielder's choice when the Bobcats unsuccessfully tried to nab Roche at third base. Senior Zach Duggan scored Roche when he grounded into a double play.
Ohio rallied for two runs in the top of the fourth inning with the first of Ward's two home runs. Ward cleared the left-field wall with one out two-run blast.
Pitt starting pitcher Kevin Dooley (0-1) allowed two runs in four innings of work. The senior allowed just one hit and one earned run while walking three and striking out one.
Both teams exchanged runs in the fifth, with the Panthers picking up their run on Smith's sacrifice fly.
The Bobcats put up runs in the final three innings to take a 9-2 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth and down to their final out, the Panthers recorded three straight hits capped by Schultz's two-RBI single.
Ohio out-hit the Panthers 11-9 in the contest.
Pitt will play its first Big East home series at the Petersen Sports Complex when it faces Notre Dame for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 1. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
