Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 in Heartbreaker

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team fell 4-3 in a heartbreaker to Seton Hall, this afternoon, at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Club. The Panthers slipped to 6-7 on the year and 2-4 in Big East action.
For the third match in a row, the Panthers won the doubles point after sweeping all three matches.
In No. 3 singles, junior Minh Evans and freshman Taylor Washington improved to 3-0 on the year with an 8-4 victory.
Pitt’s No. 1 pairing of senior Elizabeth Adams and sophomore Gabrielle Catanzariti gave up just three games in their second-consecutive victory as the top doubles duo.
Then the team of freshmen Jocelyn Lu and Kimmy Borza won their ninth match of the season at 8-4.
In singles, Catanzariti and Lu earned wins for the Panthers. Catanzariti recorded a straight-set win, as she gave up just one game in each session of play.
Lu had to hold off her opponent in No. 3 singles after winning 6-2 in the first set. She then fell 6-2 in the second series before posting a 6-2 score in the winner.
The Panthers play Duquesne on Tuesday, March 22, at 12:30 p.m.
