PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Sophomore Karma Parbhu of women’s tennis earned her first-ever Big East Player of the Week accolade, as announced by league officials for the week of Feb. 21. This is also the first conference nod of the season for the Panthers.
Parbhu was named the conference Player of the Week after going undefeated in her doubles’ and singles’ matches against St. Bonaventure. Playing at No. 4 singles, she earned a two-set victory in the 7-0 sweep over the Bonnies. Additionally, Parbhu has won her last three singles matches for the Panthers.
Earlier in doubles play, Parbhu and her partner Brittney Russell trailed 4-3 in their match. However, behind a smart close out play from Parbhu, Pitt’s No. 3 doubles solidified the doubles point. The duo won the match at 8-6.
Pitt’s match against St. Bonaventure was the first-ever tennis match at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Club.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday, March 6, at 10 a.m. against Nova Southeastern.
