PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Senior Elizabeth Adams was named a 2010-11 American Eagle Outfitters Big East Institutional Scholar-Athlete, as announced by the Big East Academic Affairs Committee.
Adams (Reading, Pa.), a member of the women’s tennis team, is a finance major who carries a 4.0 GPA. As a recipient of this award, she will receive a $2,000 scholarship to apply towards her graduate studies. Adams is one of 16 female student-athletes in the Big East to receive this honor.
In her career, Adams has compiled 133 victories, including 70 singles wins and 63 in doubles play. All three milestones rank third all-time in Pitt history in their respective categories. Pitt’s number one singles player, Adams was an All-Big East selection and the team MVP as a sophomore.
Adams is the second women’s tennis player to receive a academic honor in the last three years. In 2009, her former doubles partner and current assistant coach Kristy Borza earned the league’s institutional award.
The women’s tennis returns to action on March 6 when it faces Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. at 10:00 a.m.
