PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team will head down the road today to play the Carnie Mellon Tartans on National Student-Athlete Day.
The Panthers (7-4, 3-3 Big East) are coming off a strong Big East weekend, giving up only two games in their two Big East wins against Villanova and Seton Hall. Today’s match-up against the Division III Tartans (10-5) will be the Panthers first match in over a week.
Pitt leads the all-time series against Carnegie Mellon, 27-2. With the exception of last year’s cancelled match, the two teams have met every year since 1982. The last time the Tartans won the rivalry was in 1988 when they upset the Panthers, 5-4.
The match will take place today at Carnegie Mellon Campus tennis courts and will follow a nine-point format where each doubles and singles match will count as one point. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
