PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh's women's tennis team will wrap up the 2009-10 regular season portion of their schedule with a three-day road trip this weekend.
On the line for the Panthers (8-6, 3-4 Big East) is a chance to make the Big East Championships next week. Pitt will face-off against three Big East opponents this weekend; the line-up includes Providence, St. John's, and Connecticut.
With three matches left on the year, the Panthers will head to Providence (5-13, 0-4 Big East) to play their first match of the weekend. The Panthers lead the all-time series against the Friars, 4-3, and the last time the two met Pitt was a 7-0 winner.
After a two-year hiatus the two teams will meet again on Friday, April 16. Match time is set for 2 p.m. against at the Providence College Tennis Courts.
After Friday's match, Pitt will travel to Storrs, Conn. to battle St. John's (8-9, 4-1 Big East) on the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts. The Red Storm lead the all-time series against the Panthers 3-2, however, the Panthers dominated, taking the last match by a 5-2 count.
The match is set for Saturday, 11 a.m. against St. John's who will be coming off a match against the home court Huskies (6-8, 3-5 Big East).
Pitt's final match of the regular season will come against Connecticut the following day. This match will serve as a tie-breaker of sorts as Pitt and UConn have each won five matches in the all-time series.
The Big East rivals not only break the series tie, but end their regular seasons together on the court this Sunday. Match time is set for 10 a.m. on the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts.
This weekend could determine the Big East fate of the Panthers who are looking to improve on their best ever finish in the Big East Tournament last season, tying for seventh.
