Pitt junior Sarah Dieffenbach joined the Pitt tennis team this season following two years at George Mason University. Dieffenbach, daughter of long-time Pitt head coach George Dieffenbach talks about the decision to trasnfer, what she loves about Pittsburgh and the benefits of coming back home below.
What is the biggest difference you found coming from George Mason?
[Sarah] The biggest difference I found in transferring to Pitt was the urban setting of the campus compared to the suburban setting of George Mason.
What’s your favorite thing about Pitt?
[Sarah] I love being in Pittsburgh in general. Also, the academics are more challenging than George Mason, which I really like.
What’s it like having your dad as a coach? Advantages, disadvantages?
[Sarah] I love having my dad as a coach! Most kids would think otherwise, but my relationship with my dad is unlike any other father-daughter relationships. Some advantages are the fact that I get to see him everyday and that I can get tennis advice whenever I want. I can’t really think of any disadvantages.
As a transfer, how do you balance a new class schedule and school with a new team?
[Sarah] I have to be very organized to be able to balance my class schedule with a new team. It’s not easy to play a sport and maintain a good GPA.
What’s your favorite thing about being a Pittsburgh native and going to school at Pitt?
[Sarah] It’s nice to go to school in Pittsburgh because I know my way around the city.
What’s your favorite local food off the beating path?
[Sarah] My favorite local food has to be Fuel and Fuddle. I eat there almost weekly (although I try not to!).
What’s your favorite thing about being so close to home?
[Sarah] It’s nice to be able to go home and do laundry and spend time with my family.
What’s your favorite thing about Pitt’s campus?
[Sarah] I love the fact that Pitt’s campus has such a central location. It’s10 minutes away from the city, 15 minutes away from my house, 15 minutes away from the mall…haha.
What’s one thing you miss form George Mason?
[Sarah] I miss the friends that I made there! It was nice to get away from home for two years, but I couldn’t be happier with my decision to transfer to Pitt.
What’s your favorite place to hang out on campus?
[Sarah] My favorite place to hang out…hmm that’s a tough one. I would have to say either my apartment or the Pete (Peterson Events Center).
