HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team finished up its weekend travel today with a tough 4-3 loss to the University of Cincinnati in a match played at the Marshall University.
The Panthers (8-6, 3-4 Big East) struggled in close matches in singles after clinching the doubles point against the Bearcats (10-11, 3-3 Big East). The two teams were both coming off 7-0 losses to the No. 55 Thundering Herd.
Pitt lost three of its four singles losses in close three-set matches. The team’s only singles victories were at the hands of the doubles duo of Adela Aprodu and Karma Parbhu. Aprodu was the only three-set challenge to go the Panthers' way.
“A very competitive but disappointing 4-3 defeat,” said head coach George Dieffenbach. “This was a strong Cincinnati team.”
Next up for the Panthers is a road trip to play three Big East teams; Providence, St. John’s and Connecticut. Pitt heads to Providence, R.I. next Friday, April 16. Match time is set for 2 p.m. against the Friars.
