PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh’s women’s tennis team will play three matches in three days this weekend as they travel to resume Big East action.
First, the Panthers (5-3, 1-2 Big East) will head to Villanova to play the Wildcats (0-11, 0-3 Big East) on Friday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at the Villanova Tennis Complex. Pitt leads the all-time series against Villanova 13-6 and has knocked off the Wildcats 7-0 in each of the last two meetings.
Next stop for Pitt will be Piscataway, N.J. as the Panthers take on Rutgers (8-4, 2-1 Big East) on Saturday, March 27 at the Busch Tennis Bubble. The Scarlet Knights have yet to drop a match to the Panthers, leading the all-time series 14-0.
On Sunday, Pitt will wrap up its road trip and head north to Montclair, N.J. to face-off against Seton Hall (5-5, 0-1 Big East) for its third and final match of the weekend. Despite beating the Pirates the last two consecutive years, the Panthers are only 3-6 in the all-time series against Seton Hall. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
After a tough loss to Duquesne University the Panthers are ready to face the weekend line-up of Big East teams. Head Coach George Dieffenbach says road trips like these bring the team together to create a more unified team ready to compete.
“We’re eating meals together, high-quality meals, high-quality nutrition,” says Dieffenbach. “Even though it can be a grind being on the road, players will definitely get their eight hours of sleep every night.”
Pitt hits the road this afternoon to begin their three-match series. Match time against Villanova is set for 1:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
