MORGANTOWN, W.Va.—Sophomore Elizabeth Adams recorded her 88th career victory, despite the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team dropping a 6-1 decision to Rutgers on Sunday. The Panthers slipped to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big East, while the Scarlet Knights improved to 13-4 on the year and 7-2 in league play.
Adams earned her team-leading 19th singles’ victory of the season, claiming a two-set win in the No. 2 spot. She is now just one win shy tying the eighth-best mark of a 20-win single-season. The current record stands at 28 singles victories and is held by doubles partner Kristy Borza.
Adams’ single-season winning percentage stands at .760, which also ranks in the single-season top 10. On the year, her combined record is 41-12 and with 12 more victories she will become the 13th member of the 100-Victory Club at Pitt.
Borza (174) and senior Christie D’Achille (111) are the two members from this year’s roster that boast more 100 career wins.
In the match, Pitt dropped the doubles’ point for the third time this season. D’Achille and junior Shannon Benic played a close match in No. 3 doubles, before falling 9-8 (4).
The Panthers travel to Cincinnati on Friday, April 10, for their regular-season conference finale at 10 a.m.
