PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s women’s tennis team hosts Youngstown State in non-conference match on Wednesday, March 18, at 12:30 p.m. The match will be held at The Club in Monroeville.
The Panthers (8-3, 4-0 Big East) have won the doubles point in all but one match this season, and are led by the No. 1 doubles team of senior Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and sophomore Elizabeth Adams (Reading, Pa./Wilson) with a 17-2 overall record.
Additionally, the Panthers No. 3 doubles team of Shannon Benic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) and Christie D’Achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) enter the match with a 4-0 record.
In singles, Adams is 14-5 following a three-set victory over her Army opponent, last week. In that match, she dropped a close 7-5 opener, but forced the tiebreaker after winning 6-2 in the second set. In the third set, she ran away with a 6-1 victory.
Youngstown State is coming off a 6-1 loss to Akron. In the all-time series, the Panthers hold a 28-7 advantage over the Penguins, winning the last 16 contests.
