PITTSBURGH—Coming off of a 2-0 week and sitting at an undefeated 7-0, the Pitt women’s tennis team will host Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 28, in search of its best-ever start to a season in school history. The match is slated for 5 p.m. on Saturday at The Club in Monroeville.
The Panthers (7-0, 4-0 Big East) last defeated George Mason to improve to 7-0, only previously done twice during the 1982-83 and 1991-92 seasons. Pitt is also in the midst of its best-ever start in conference play, winning the first four of the season.
Sophomore Elizabeth Adams posted her 14th consecutive combined wins, as the team’s No. 1 player in both singles and doubles. Additionally, senior Kristy Borza moved up to the No. 2 spot and holds a 4-2 record in singles and is 11-2 in doubles. She currently holds the school’s all-time record for most career wins at 162.
Buffalo is coming off a 4-3 win over Cornell. The Bulls (2-3, 0-0 MAC) are led by the No. 1 doubles squad of Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu who remain undefeated, during the spring season.
Pitt leads Buffalo, 7-3, in the all-time series history. The last time the teams met was during the 1998-99 season, when the Panthers earned an 8-1 victory.
