D'Achille Joins 100-Victory Club

DUMFRIES, Va.—Senior Christie D’Achille became the 12th member of the 100-Victory Club, as Pitt earned its second shutout of the year with a 7-0 victory over George Mason on Sunday, at the Mason Tennis Courts.
In its second sweep of the season, Pitt improved to 7-0 on the year for the first time since the 1991-92 season. During the 1991-92 season, the Panthers earned all of its wins over non-conference opponents- IUP (6-3), Duquesne (9-0), Fairmont State (8-1), Carnegie Mellon (9-0), St. Francis (9-0), Canisius (7-2), Youngstown St. (9-0), and stood at 11-4 at one point. This season, Pitt has recorded two shutouts and four victories over Big East teams.
D’Achille made her mark in Pitt’s history as the 12th entry into the 100-Victory Club after recording two wins in the match. First, she teamed with junior Shannon Benic in No. 2 doubles to secure her 100th career victory with an 8-3 win over Brooke Blackwell and Alicia Van Zandt. Later in singles she went 6-2, 6-1 over Laura-Marie Blisk to capture win number 101.
Individually, Benic recorded her first win of the spring over George Mason’s Aryn Christman, in No. 6 singles.
Senior Kristy Borza recorded her 162nd career victory in the match, while sophomore Elizabeth Adams won her 14th consecutive match as the team’s No. 1.
Sophomore Adela Aprodu notched her first shutout of the year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Meredith Cutchin.
The Panthers host Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.
