Tennis Wraps Up Action at Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The University of Pittsburgh tennis team wrapped up its fall portion of the 2009-10 schedule with a trip to the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Regional Championship held in Blacksburg, Va., on the Virginia Tech campus.
Junior Elizabeth Adams (Reading, Pa./Wilson) posted a 1-1 mark in singles play in Virginia, dropping her first-round match to Irina Dementyeva (Old Dominion), 6-3, 7-5 before picking up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sarah Lotto (Penn State) in the consolation bracket.
Senior Shannon Benic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic/John Carroll) lost her singles match against Big East rival Stephanie Lafortune (West Virginia) 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, Adams and Benic fell to Joanna Dobrowolska and Nadine Fahoum (Old Dominion) 8-6.
The Panthers will pick up action in February with a match at Maryland on Feb. 6.
