Panthers Picked 11th in Preseason BIG EAST Poll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Pittsburgh baseball team has been selected to finish 11th in the preseason BIG EAST coaches poll. Defending tournament champion Louisville was a unanimous selection to win the 2009 conference championship by the 12 BIG EAST head coaches.
The Cardinals swept the preseason nominations as well with third baseman Chris Dominguez selected as the preseason Player of the Year and left-hander Justin Marks as Pitcher of the Year.
Louisville and Notre Dame tied for the league lead in preseason selections to the All-BIG EAST team with three. Cincinnati, picked to finish fifth and Seton Hall, picked ninth, followed suit with two players each. Connecticut, Rutgers, USF and West Virginia each had one player named to the list.
The first weekend of league play is March 20-22 with all 12 schools in action. The 2009 BIG EAST Baseball Championship will return to Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla., May 19-23, with the championship game to be televised on ESPNU.
