Smith Earns Two Shutout Victories

SETON HALL, N.J.--Senior Carlie Smith wins every game in doubles and singles action, as the University of Pittsburgh women's tennis team earned its fifth shutout of the season and sixth consecutive win, in a 7-0 shutout over Seton Hall Saturday afternoon. Pitt improved to 9-6 on the year and 5-1 in the Big East.
For the second time in as many days, the No. 3 doubles team of seniors Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Alldedice) and Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) shutout their opponents in an 8-0 match.
Smith would then shutout the Pirate's Liza Chu in No. 5 singles, improving to 130 in combined overall wins. Smith is 16-12 in singles and 13-9 in doubles on the season.
Additionally, junior Christie D'achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) only gave up one game in her No. 4 singles match, as she earned her 83rd career win in the match. She is now just 17 wins of becoming the 12th member of the 100-Victory Club.
Pitt concludes its Big East regular-season slate against Rutgers on Sunday.
