Women's Tennis Records Shutout Over RMU

PITTSBURGH--After rescheduling the match twice, Pitt's women's tennis team finally faced Robert Morris at Club 4 Life, this afternoon, and recorded a 7-0 shutout victory. Pitt improved to 5-2 on the season, while freshman Sabrina Visram recorded her seventh straight singles win.

Visram (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) improved to 7-0 in singles action, giving up just one point in two sets (6-0, 6-1) over Katie Kravits in the No. 4 singles matchup. Visram's seven-game streak is second to sophomore Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) who opened her rookie year with eight consecutive wins.

Borza was one of four Panthers to earn two-set shutouts in the match, including juniors Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) and Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and sophomore Christie D'achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny).

Smith now boasts 91 career wins, while Friedman is 15 wins shy of joining the 100-Victories Club.

Sweeping doubles, the Panthers earned the early point in the match. As a team, Pitt only gave up one point in all three matches combined. Visram and D'achille earned their win the quickest in the No. 3 slot.

Next, Pitt hosts Youngstown State on Wednesday, March 19, at 1 p.m., at Club 4 Life.
