ROCK HILL, S.C.--Two seven-run scoring sprees and five errors lift the University of Pittsburgh to a school-record 15-2 win over Ohio University at Terry Field, during the Winthrop Invitational.

The Panthers got red hot from the plate in the top of the second inning, scoring seven runs off five hits, aided by three Ohio errors.

It all began with a bomb to left center field by lead-off hitter Christa Hunter (Sacramento, CA/Hiram Johnson West). Then, two one-out walks loaded the bases for senior Francesca DiMaria (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour), who singled after a pitching change. Faced with the same scenario, junior Joey Scarf (Humble, TX/Humble) also singled, earning a RBI.

Hunter singled to right field after senior Lisa McGregor (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) reached base on an error, to tally two more runs and keep the bases loaded. Another single from sophomore Jessica Dignon (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) drove in two more runs and rounded out the scoring for the Panthers in the second inning. Pitt led 8-0 heading into the bottom of the inning. DiMaria opened the game with a homer to left center and giving Pitt a 1-0 advantage in the first.

Pitt repeated its seven-run outpour in the fourth off five hits and two Bobcat errors.

Junior Sheena Hellon (Sacramento, CA/Cordova) scored the first run of the inning due to a single from Hunter. Hellon was walked and stole second before a McGregor single placed her on third. Earning a RBI, next, was sophomore Mary Hecker (Roseville, CA/Roseville), who sent McGregor home.

Following the third pitching change, Ohio's shortstop made a play on junior Morgan Howard's (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) ball but mishandled it allowing both Dignon and Hunter to score. A single and a double from DiMaria and Hellon, respectively, rounded out the scoring as Hecker, Howard and DiMaria touched home plate.

Earlier this season the Panthers scored 13 runs, which surpassed its 12-run game against Coastal Carolina in March, 2001.

The Bobcat's scored two runs in the second inning, after two singles drove runners in.

Hunter, a senior pitcher, worked five innings allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out six batters.

DiMaria and Hunter went 3-4 from the plate and recorded three RBI in the game.
