As Pitt[apos]s first-ever softball player to compete at the professional level, Jessica Dignon returns to her alma mater this season as an assistant softball coach for the Panthers. Dignon joins Holly Aprile[apos]s staff alongside Gina Fuchs.
As a player, Dignon led Pitt to each of its three Big East Championship berths, prior to continuing her softball career professionally with the Washington Glory as a utility player. As a member of the Glory, Dignon aided the team[apos]s 30-win season with a game against the New England RipTide, where she scored three runs and hit a three-run homer for an 11-2 victory.
As a Panther, Dignon was a four-year starter at either third base or shortstop. She set or tied school career records for RBI (113) and doubles (45), and set single-season records for doubles (17), runs scored (43) and RBI (44). She was also Pitt[apos]s first three-time All-Big East selection. She graduated from Pitt with a degree in communications.
Just before joining the Glory, Dignon was named to the ECAC Softball All-Star second team, making her one of the first two Panthers to earn that distinction.
