Softball Earns Shutout Over Providence

ROCK HILL, S.C.--The University of Pittsburgh softball team earned a 2-0 shutout over Big East foe Providence College. Junior Joey Scarf earned a RBI and scored in the win.

Scarf (Humble, TX/Humble) earned the game-winning RBI in the third inning with a sacrifice fly ball to center field that sent senior Francesca DiMaria (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) in for the run. DiMaria advanced to base on a one-out triple.

Scarf added another run in the sixth, as she crossed home plate due to sophomore Jessica Dignon's (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) double.

Juniors Laura Berlardinelli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and Meghan Bostick (Colleyville, TX/Grapevine) pitched the shutout for the Panthers. In five innings, Belardinelli fanned five batters and allowed just five hits in the game. Bostick held the Friars to one hit in two innings and struck out four batters.

DiMaria was 1-2 at-bat and scored a run in the game, while Dignon was 2-2 with a RBI.
