Softball Drops Game Two Of Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C.-One error in the third inning leads to a loss for the Panthers, as the University of Pittsburgh softball team falls 1-0 to East Tennessee State at Terry Field. Pitt's record drops to 6-10 on the season following its second game of the Winthrop Invitational.

ETSU got on the board after the second batter of the third inning reached base on a Pitt error. After a sacrifice bunt and a single, the Buccaneers notched in their lone run of the game.

Pitt had an opportunity to score early in the first after junior Joey Scarf (Humble, TX/Humble doubled down the right line and advanced to third after sophomore Jessica Dignon (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) grounded out. Pitt's hopes in the first were ended with a caught fly ball by the ETSU right fielder.

Another scoring possibility presented itself in the seventh, as junior Heather Connor (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) awaited a hit from third base with two outs on the board. Connor advanced to base with a single to left field that was followed by a walk granted to sophomore Mary Hecker (Roseville, CA.Roseville). Unfortunately, the Panthers didn't convert and left Connor and Hecker stranded.

Junior Meghan Bostick (Colleyville, TX/Grapevine) recorded a nine strikeout game, while allowing four hits in the loss. Bostick posted three innings were she recorded zeros across the board.
