Softball Scores Eight Runs In Win

Pitt jumped on top in the first inning, as sophomore Jessica Dignon (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) doubled to left center and came around to score on an RBI single by senior Jessica Thomas (Southlake, TX/Carroll) to give the squad a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers added two more runs off wild pitches from the Spartan's Hannah Angel in the third, taking a three-run advantage. Both junior Joey Scarf (Humble, TX/Humble) and senior Lisa McGregor (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford Senior) tallied the runs during the one-hit inning.
After Gwen Johnson of UNCG recorded a solo homer to right, the Panthers quickly answered with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
Once again wild pitches plagued the Spartans, as Pitt's first of four runs was scored by sophomore Leanne McCarron (
McGregor, then, lined a sacrifice shot to right field that allowed senior Francesca DiMaria (
Scarf also scored the final run of the game for the Panthers in the sixth inning, when senior Christa Hunter (
Senior Laura Belardinelli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) (3-4) garnered the victory for Pitt, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out four batters in five innings. Angel (2-4) allowed eight hits and six earned runs in the loss for the Spartans.
