BOCA RATON, Fla.-Despite holding the Boilermakers scoreless in the four inning, the University of Pittsburgh softball team fell 5-0 to Purdue in its second game of the FAU Worth Tournament, this afternoon. The Panthers (0-2) slip to 0-3 in the series against the Boilermakers (1-1).
Although it was an even race through the first four innings, Purdue got on the board with three runs in the fifth and added two more runs in the sixth for insurance.
Pitt's junior Meghan Bostick (Colleyville, Texas/Grapevine) started the game on fire from the circle. Bostick struck out four batters and posted a one-hitter through the first four. Then, after three runners advanced to base with no outs, Bostick was replaced by freshman Kaitlyn Schuster (Ellwood City, Pa./Ellwood City).
Bostick allowed three runs off four hits in four innings for the loss, while Schuster allowed two runs off four hits and fanned to batters in her first three innings as a Panther.
Junior Sheena Hellon (Sacramento, Calif./Cordova) led the defensive charge with seven putouts from short stop. Junior Heather Connor (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) tallied six putouts, while sophomore Mary Hecker (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) followed with five in the game.
Senior Francesca DiMaria (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) and junior Joey Scarf (Humble, Texas/Humble) earned hits in the game.
