
Pitt's Tennis Earns First-Ever ITA Regional Ranking

SKILLMAN, NJ - Pitt's doubles team of sophomore Kristy Borza and junior Leah Friedman earned the Panther's first-ever ITA East Regional doubles ranking when they landed 13th on the ITA poll. Borza and Friedman are the only members of a Big East school to earn mention in the top-14 poll.
"Kristy and Leah have achieved this ITA East region #13 doubles ranking as a result of a combination of hard work, drive, determination, and talent," Head Coach George Dieffenbach said. "Since the ITA has been doing the rankings no one from Pitt has achieved an ITA East region ranking before. This accomplishment is well deserved and something to improve and build on in the spring season. These players, through their accomplishment, give great leadership to our team for the challenging spring 2007 season.
"Kristy and Leah had an outstanding ITA East regional tournament in October at
Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) played together in No. 1 doubles last season and posted a 19-11 record when paired. This fall the duo was 8-3 in tournament action while finishing 5-3 against regional opponents.
Borza was named the team MVP last season after earning a 26-7 singles record and a 21-11 doubles record. Following a stellar rookie season, Borza is tied for first on the all-time single-season wins list in both singles and doubles.
Also moving up in the record books, Friedman is tied for fifth on the all-time single-season doubles list after recording a 19-11 doubles record last season. Playing out of the No. 2 spot this fall, Friedman was 7-5 in tournament play.
The Panthers open spring competition on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m., against Bucknell at Club 4 Life in
