Tennis Defeats Duquesne, 4-3

Junior Emily Hughes went 2-0 vs. the Dukes.
PITTSBURGH- The University of Pittsburgh?s women?s tennis was victorious, 4-3, after a close match against Duquesne University Wednesday at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville. The victory over the Dukes improved the Panthers at 8-8 on the season.
In singles play, the Panthers went 3 for 6. Pittsburgh earned victories at No. 4 singles as Leah Friedman defeated Julie Wagner 6-2, 6-0; Emily Hughes defeated Sarah Shanahan at No. 5 singles in a three-match set, 7-5.4-6,1-6; and at No. 6 singles, Konita Jude defeated Ciara McDermott, 6-2, 2-5, 6-7.
Pittsburgh earned the doubles point after winning two matches. Jill Williams teamed up with Hughes at the No. 1 spot and defeated Duquesne?s Jackie Hughes and Alicia McNamara, 8-1. Closing out the doubles action, Annie Davies and Jude registered a 9-7 victory over Shanahan and McDermott.
The Panthers travel to Jamaica, N.Y. to take on BIG EAST opponents, Connecticut (April 9) and St. John?s (April 10).
