Wrestling to Send Six to NCAA Championships

PITTSBURGH - With the addition of sophomore 157-pounder Matt Kocher and junior 165-pounder Justin Nestor, the Pittsburgh wrestling team will send six to the NCAA Championships, held in St. Louis, Mo., from March 17-19.
Kocher (State College, Pa./State College) and Nestor (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) were selected as two of the Eastern Wrestling League's six wild-card entries, and will join qualifiers Drew Headlee (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg), Ronald Tarquinio (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny), Keith Gavin (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) and Zach Sheaffer (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) at the national tournament.
Headlee finished in third place at 133 pounds, Tarquinio and Gavin finished in second place at 141 and 184 pounds, respectively, and Sheaffer won the EWL title at heavyweight to earn automatic berths into the NCAA Championships. Nestor and Tarquinio will each be making their third trip to nationals, while Kocher makes his second trip. Headlee, Gavin and Sheaffer qualified for their first championship tournament.
