BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Kade Brown secured the victory with a pin in the final bout of the night as the No. 20 Pitt wrestling team battled back to earn a road dual win over the No. 14 Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 21-15, at Grace Hall Friday night.
The dual was a tight contest throughout the night as the Panthers and Mountain Hawks were tied twice during the dual, but the Panthers won the final three matches and used bonus points to secure the ranked road win.
No. 14 Luca Augustine got the Panthers back in the match with a 20-5 technical fall win to cut the deficit to 6-5 after the Mountain Hawks won the opening two bouts. Augustine entered the third period with a 6-2 lead at 174 pounds, and closed strong by scoring four takedowns, an escape and a stalling call in the third period to secure the bonus points.
No. 5 Mac Stout followed with a major decision victory at 197 pounds to tie the dual, 9-9, at the halfway point. Stout held a 4-2 lead entering the final period and turned it into an 11-3 major decision to secure more bonus points for the Panthers.
The Mountain Hawks took a 12-9 lead after a tough battle at heavyweight between No. 12 Dayton Pitzer and No. 7 Nathan Taylor. Pitzer tied the bout 4-4 with a takedown late in the third period, but a locked hands penalty in the closing seconds awarded Taylor the decisive point to win the match.
Lehigh picked up another win at 125 pounds before the Panthers closed out the night by winning the final three bouts to secure the dual. No. 30 Evan Tallmadge won by a 9-5 decision at 133 pounds to cut the deficit 15-12. Briar Priest won in sudden victory to tie the dual 15-15 and set the stage for Brown. Brown then slammed the door on the comeback with a 1:08 fall over Owen Reinsel to clinch the upset victory.
