Women's Tennis Wins Two

The Panthers defeated St. Francis, 7-0, and Youngstown State, 5-2.
PITTSBURGH- The Pittsburgh Women?s Tennis team won a pair of matches this week. The Panthers shutout St. Francis (Pa.), 7-0, on Tuesday and defeated Youngstown State, 5-2 on Wednesday. The victories improve the Panthers to 6-6 on the season.
Against St. Francis, Pittsburgh?s Jill Williams and Emily Hughes went 8-1 against Lesley Wenzel and Roxy Ionescu to start off the doubles match. With the victory, Pitt?s Williams registered her 100th victory becoming only the seventh Panther to achieve such an honor. Annie Davies and Beckie Emmers continued in winning style, beating Becky Seybold and Danielle Gauthier, 8-0.
In singles play, Pittsburgh was victorious in all matches against the Red Storm. Pitt?s Williams went 6-1 and 6-1 against Wenzel at the No. 1spot. Emmers took on Ionescy and finished the sets at 6-0, 4-6 (10-5). Davies went 6-0 both matches against Becky Seybold at the No. 3 spot and Leah Friedman defeated Mallary Palmer, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot.. Emily Hughes defeated Lauren Gamerro, 6-0, 6-1. Finishing the singles play Carlie Smith went 6-0 both matches against Johanna Jackson.
Against Youngstown State, the Panthers captured the doubles point. At the Np. 2 spot, Emmers and Davies defeated Whitney Thomas and Michelle Fuleky, 8-6. Friedman and Smith defeated Gina Peretti and Nicole Muzechuk, 8-2, at the No. 3 spot.
The Panthers won four of the singles matches against the Penguins. At the No. 2 spot, Emmers defeated Thomas, 6-4, 6-0. Davies took on Peretti and finished, 6-2, 6-1. To finish out the match, Pitt?s Hughes defeated Emily Thayer, 6-4, 6-2 and Smith defeated Fuleky, 6-2, 6-3.
The Panthers return to action at Carnegie Mellon on March 30 at 3:00pm.
