Tennis Falls to Georgetown

Despite strong doubles play, the Panthers could not win any of the singles matches.

PITTSBURGH- The University of Pittsburgh?s women?s tennis team lost to Georgetown with a score of 6-1 this past weekend at the Army-Navy Country Club.

The Panthers secured the doubles point after winning the second and third matches. At No. 2 doubles, Beckie Emmers and Annie Davis fought back and came out with a 9-7 win against Liddy Bartell and Adriann Gin. Leah Friedman and Carlie Smith, who played together for the first time, defeated Georgetown?s Kristin Dew and Sana Malouf for an 8-4 win.

The Panthers did not come up with any wins in singles play. In the No. 1 spot, Jill Williams was defeated by Georgetown?s Elizabeth Winokur, 7-6 (0), 6-4.  Emmers played for Pitt at No. 2 and was also defeated 6-2,6-2 by Stephanie Cohen.  The Hoyas? Batell won 6-3, 6-2 in the third singles match against Davies. At No. 4 singles, Firedman lost against Gin, 6-2, 6-4.

The Panthers will be back in action on February 19 as they take on Mercyhurst at home.
