Freshman Zach Sheaffer Named EWL Wrestler of the Week

Sheaffer (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) is a first-time honoree and defeated Lehigh?s Paul Weibel and Penn State?s Josh Walker in dual bouts on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. In the bout against Weibel, ranked 18th by the Amateur Wrestling News, Sheaffer was able to counter an attack and turn it into a takedown and eventually a pin at the 2:14 mark of the first period. The next day, Sheaffer scored a late takedown and defeated Walker by a 5-3 count to improve to 15-7 for the season and 3-1 in dual meets.
He joins junior Ronald Tarquinio (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and sophomore Matt Kocher (State College, Pa./State College) as league honorees this season. Tarquinio won the award on Dec. 5 after sharing the award with Kocher on Nov. 28. The 25th-ranked Panthers are back in action on Friday, January 14 against Ohio State. The meet will be in the Petersen Events Center and begin at 7:30 p.m.
