Youngstown State Defeats Women's Tennis 4-3

YSU takes four of six singles matches for victory.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio?The Youngstown State women's tennis team captured four singles-match victories to defeat Pittsburgh 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at the YSU Tennis Courts. Pittsburgh is now 1-1 in fall dual meets this season.

YSU?s Heather Hagood defeated Becky Emmers 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles; Karen Najbert won at No. 2 singles defeating Annie Davies 6-0, 6-0; Gina Peretti won at No. 3 singles beating Jill Williams 7-5, 6-2 and Michelle Fuleky was victorious at No. 6 singles beating Carlie Smith 6-4, 6-1.

Pittsburgh earned victories at No. 4 singles as Leah Friedman beat YSU's Nicole Muzechuk 6-3, 6-3 and at No. 5 singles where Emily Hughes defeated Emily Thayer 6-3, 5-7, 10-4. Pittsburgh earned the doubles point by winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, including a 9-8 win at No. 3. YSU's tandem of Najbert and Fuleky won at No. 1 by a score of 8-4 over Williams and Hughes.

But that was not enough as Youngstown State captured four of the six singles matches for the victory.

Pittsburgh is next in action at the Bucknell Fall Classic on October 2-3 in Lewisburg, Pa.
