Pittsburgh Women?s Defeats St. Bonaventure

Hayley Hughes chalks up 100th victory

OLEAN, N.Y. -- After a loss to St. John?s the previous day, the Panthers? women?s tennis team came back to defeat St. Bonaventure.  Pittsburgh scored a 5-2 victory against the Bonnies to improve their overall season record to 6-2.

Pittsburgh?s Laura Pegula (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Emily Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) went 8-2 against Natalie Rumpel and Lindsey Marsh to start off the doubles match. Annie Davies (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Hayley Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) continued the winning streak with an 8-3 win over Jasmine Jaysingh and Morgan Marsh.  Becky Emmers (Wilson N.C./Providence) and Danielle Shuttleworth (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) finished out the doubles matches with an 8-2 win over St. Bonaventure?s Stephanie Fosnight and Kate Tkacik.    

In singles play, Pittsburgh?s Emmers took the first match by default over Rumpel due to injury. Davies racked up a tough win again Fosnight, and finished the match with 6-4, 5-7  and 6-1 sets. Hayley Hughes became the sixth Panther to earn 100 career victories with a win over Lindsey Marsh with a 6-0, 6-1 set. Emily Hughes was defeated 6-3 and 6-2 against Jasmine Jaysingh. Konita Jude (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) went 6-2 both matches for a win against Morgan Marsh. Shuttleworth finished out the singles play with a loss against Tkacik in a 6-4, 4-6, (10-4) set.
