HUNTINGTON, W.Va ? Marshall defeated the Pittsburgh women?s tennis team, 7-0, on Saturday, giving the Panthers their first loss of the season.
The Herd claimed all six singles matches. In number one singles, Marshall?s Jessica Johnson defeated Pittsburgh's Laura Pegula (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), 6-1, 6-2. In number two singles, Marshall's Alice Sukner defeated Pittsburgh's Becky Emmers (Wilson N.C./Providence), 6-0, 6-1. In number three singles, Marshall's Ashley Kroh defeated Pittsburgh's Annie Davies (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg), 6-1, 6-0. In number four singles, Marshall's Lille Nzudie defeated Pittsburgh's Hayley Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic), 6-0, 6-1. In number five singles, Marshall's Joelle Good defeated Pittsburgh's Emily Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic), 6-0, 6-2. In number six singles, Marshall's Danielle Hock defeated Pittsburgh's Konita Jude (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King), 6-0, 6-1. T
he Herd won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Marshall's Kroh and Johnson defeated Pittsburgh's Pegula and Emily Hughes, 8-1. In number two singles, Marshall's Sukner and Nzudie defeated Pittsburgh's Hayley Hughes and Davies, 8-0. In number three doubles, Marshall's Meghan Skalsky and Hock defeated Pittsburgh's Danielle Shuttleworth (Fairview, Pa./Fairview)and Emmers, 8-0.
Pittsburgh will be in action on Tuesday, March 2 at 3:00 p.m. vs. Robert Morris in Moon Township.
