YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - In its first dual match of the fall season, the Pittsburgh women?s tennis team claimed a 4-3 victory Wednesday over Youngstown State.
In doubles matches Pittsburgh had one victory with the team of Laura Pegula (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Konita Jude (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) defeating the duo of Sara Evans and Andrea Dixon by a score of 8-0.
In singles play, No. 1 Becky Emmers (Wilson N.C./Providence) defeated Karen Najbert (6-4, 6-1), No. 2 Annie Davies (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) defeated Heather Hagood (6-2, 6-2). Pittsburgh?s defeats in singles play came in the No. 3 match where Gina Peretti defeated Hayley Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) (7-6 (6) 5-7, 10-4) and No. 4 Nicole Muzechuk defeated Emily Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) (6-2, 6-2). Finishing out the single matches Pegula defeated Dixon (6-2, 6-1) at No.5 and No. 6 Jude topped Evans (6-1, 6-2).
Pittsburgh (1-0) will be back in action Oct. 3-5 when they compete in the Women?s Eastern Collegiate Tournament in West Point, N.Y.
