Panthers Drop 4-3 Decision to Youngstown State

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to host Youngstown State Thurs., Sept. 28. The Panthers and Penguins split the singles matches with each team winning three, while the Penguins took two of the three doubles contests.
At the number-two doubles spot, freshman Jill Williams (Media, Pa./Upper St. Clair) captured a 6-3, 6-1 win over YSU's Leslie Banks. Number-five seed Dana Jafarian (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) added a victory of her own with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Annie Morino. The Panthers' final singles win came with freshman Hayley Hughes' (Sycamore, Pa./Canevin) 6-3, 6-2 win at the number-six spot.
In doubles competition, sophomore Nikki Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) combined with Jafarian to win an 8-4 victory over YSU's Morino and Meister at the third-seeded doubles position.
The Panthers return to action this weekend when they participate in the Bucknell Invitational Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
