Panthers Complete 1999-2000 Season

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh women's tennis team closed out its 1999-2000 campaign with an 11th-place finish at the Big East Championships this past weekend.
In the final match of the tournament, the Panthers captured a 5-2 decision over Connecticut to finish 11th.
Pittsburgh won decisions in four of the six singles matches. In the number two singles match, junior Lindsay Carlson (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) defeated Colleen Connors, 6-2, 6-2. Fellow junior Dana Jafarian (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) added another win with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Anne Dewberry at the third slot. The Panthers completed their scoring in singles competition with freshman Nikki Borza's (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) 6-0, 6-2 decision at the number four spot and sophomore Christin Glorioso's (Fox Chapel, Pa./Fox Chapel) 6-2, 6-4 win at the number five spot.
The Panthers also captured the only doubles match played. The duo of freshman Brooke Yablonski (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) won an 8-4 decision over Marie Garcia and Katie Olson in the number three match.
Pittsburgh also met West Virginia and Villanova in the tournament. The Panthers dropped a 5-0 decision to the Mountaineers on the opening day of competition and later suffered a 5-1 loss to the Wildcats.
The Panthers finished the season with an overall record of 9-15.
