
Tennis Completes Regular Season Competition

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh women's tennis team completed regular season competition this past week and finished with a 9-12 overall record. In the Panthers' first action of the week, they dropped a 7-2 decision to University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Friday, April 14. Pittsburgh then traveled to Georgetown to face three Big East Conference-foes, but lost to the host Hoyas, 5-0, and to Providence and West Virginia by scores of 5-0 and 5-1, respectively.
Pittsburgh's freshman Nikki Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) captured the lone match for the Panthers in singles competition at UMBC with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Anita Pushpanathan in the fourth spot. In doubles competition, Borza earned another victory as she teamed with junior Dana Jafarian (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) to record a 9-7 victory at the number two doubles slot.
Jafarian notched another victory on the weekend when she took a 6-2, 6-0 victory over West Virginia's Andrea Pintaric, marking her 90th career win.
The Panthers will return to action April 20-23 when they travel to Miami for the Big East Championships.
