Pittsburgh Gymnastics Team Falls To Kent

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh gymnastics team traveled to Kent on Jan. 21. Despite a great effort, the Panthers were defeated by the Golden Flash, 194.675-192.275.
Pittsburgh was led by a number of different gymnasts on each of the four events. Freshman Nathalie Sulpher (Ottawa, Canada/Franco-Quest) placed second on vault with a score of 9.725. Junior Danielle "Freddie" Alba (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and freshman Jennifer Easter (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) both placed in a tie for third on vault, along with Kent's Airelle Hunter, with a 9.70.
Senior Samantha Salyers (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) earned a score of 9.850 on the uneven bars, placing her third on the event, while Alba finished second on the balance beam with a season-high 9.825.
Fellow senior Lisa Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) led the Panthers on floor exercise as she placed second with a score of 9.850. Sulpher also competed well on the event, earning a season-high 9.80.
The Panthers (1-1) return to action on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they travel to New Hampshire in Pittsburgh's first East Atlantic Gymnastics League competition of the season.
