PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh student-athletes Ariel Pastore-Sebring and Joe Ference were named First National Bank Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Pastore-Sebring, an Avon Grove, Pa., native, won the indoor 5K by nearly 20 seconds at the Penn State National Open Friday at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa. Her personal-best time of 16:55.24 ranked No. 35 in the nation as of Saturday. It was the redshirt junior’s first overall win since Jan. 10, 2015, when she championed the 3K at the Penn State Relays.
Ference, a freshman, won both the 1M and 3M dives at the Western Pennsylvania Invitational Saturday. His victories were two of 31 events claimed by the Panthers. The Irwin, Pa., native’s score of 323.35 marked a career best in the 3M.
Up next, Pitt track and field will travel to Notre Dame, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN3 for two hours, from 2-4 p.m. ET Saturday. There also will be live results available on both days at DeltaTiming.com.
Looking to carry over the confidence from Saturday’s success, Pitt swimming and diving will turn its attention towards preparing for the upcoming ACC Championships in Atlanta. The women will compete from Feb. 13-17, while the men will be in action from Feb. 27-March 2. Both meets will be shown on the ACC Network Extra via ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
